Making the Most of a Minute (or Two…)

Sometimes it’s a crazy world we live in.  Our schedules can just be full to the brim and trying to squeeze one more thing in is next to impossible!

That seemed to be the case last week between my friend Lyn and I.  She was here in Utah spending time with her Mother who just had a pace maker put in her heart.  Lyn came to take care of her for a week.  Lyn lives in Arizona, so  she doesn’t make it up to her Mom’s more than a couple of times a year.  This was one of those ‘bonus’ visits.  Luckily, her Mom did very well with the surgery and was feeling well enough that she had Lyn running ragged taking her places.

Sometimes all we have are fleeting moments!

Because her Mom kept her so busy….. it was making it VERY difficult for her and I to get together for lunch.  She was up in Logan, which is about 90 miles north of where I live….. so it was going to take some planning to get a visit in.

I was busy during the week getting ready for my sister’s wedding.  Planning and designing my cupcake tower, picking cupcake flavors…. buying what I needed…. blah blah blah……  Needless to say, we were both busy.

The only day Lyn had free was the day of my sister’s wedding, which wasn’t going to work because I was busy frosting and rolling fondant and all the other stuff that goes with it.

We were both determined to spend some time together…. somehow!  I even offered to drive to Logan and pick her up and bring her back down to the Salt Lake Airport…. but the shuttle arrangements had already been made and paid for.  So… the only time we had was for me to catch her between the shuttle and her getting on her plane!

It worked out that I got to the airport just as she had finished checking in her luggage with the Sky Cap.  She jumped in my car and we drove around the airport area 2 times before she wanted to get out ro get through security.  You just never know how long that security check will take….. so you can’t take chances!  Reluctant as I was to let her go…. I understood.

We probably had about 10 minutes total together … in which we were madly trying to catch up with what was going on in each others lives.  And so true to her fashion…. she spent most of the time quizzing me on MY family…. so I didn’t have time to ask her much about hers…. but we did get to talk a little about what was happening in her life.

I love that woman!  I’m so grateful that we were able to make the most of a minute…. or two… and that we got to see each other, brief though it was!

Sometimes a minute is all we have to catch up!  I know that’s how I felt when my son’s were serving on their missions for our church.  They would only get to call home 2 times a year.  And that hour on the phone would just breeze on by and certainly feel like just a minute or two!  But I was grateful for those minutes I had with them!

Be grateful for the time you have to spend with friends or family…. be it on the phone or in person!  Make the most of those minutes!

I am Grateful!  How are You?
